Follow the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Radio!

We’re a week away from the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the most popular sports event across the globe.  Starting June 11th, and lasting one month, 32 nations will play in 9 cities around the country of South Africa.  In it’s 19th edition, it will be the first one held in an African nation.

This is an exciting time!  For a whole month,  the entire globe will be talking about this tournament.  It will be present in the news and in talk shows everywhere, and for many people, the World Cup will be present in every conversation!

So, if you’re not one of the lucky few who will get to see it in person, here you can find some of the best soccer stations to listen to the games:

BBC Radio 5 Live (United Kingdom)

talkSport (United Kindom)

Radio Marca (Spain)

RAI Sport (Italy)

RTL L’Equipe (France)

Bayern 3 (Germany)

Radio Bandeirantes (Brazil)

Ok, that’s it – now, nobody has an excuse for not knowing that there are 11 official languages in South Africa or not being able to name the Uruguayan Head Coach!

Good luck to everyone and their team!

Stay tuned,

Let’s celebrate LOVE!

This coming Sunday is St. Valentine’s Day – and we are expecting a big celebration of love. 🙂

While to some people it may be yet another commercial day – and the truth is most of us probably don’t know who that saint was – we think it’s a great occasion to honor what the White Duke (David Bowie) called it:  the old fashioned word.

And you guessed it, here are the best Love stations and Romantic radios out there, so you can devote them to anyone you love. We specially recommend these three:

If you want to go beyond Love and celebrate Peace as well, we suggest these two “Flower Power” radio stations:

Okay, that’s all for now.  Just make sure that on Sunday, whomever you’re with, wherever you are, and whatever you do, you’re celebrating LOVE!

Stay tuned!

PS: Thanks to Rochi for recommending the picture we included in this post!

It’s that time of the year!

Hi!  Given that the holiday season is almost here, we wanted to talk about a holiday-related genre that has started to get more relevance on our radio station directory recently: Christmas.

Christmas is a music genre that, independently of the country you live in or the community you belong to, we think is worth checking out because of the peace and happiness that it brings at this time of the year. 🙂

According to our own radio popularity rankings, these are the top Christmas Radio Stations on Streema:

Feel free to enjoy these and other radio stations this holiday season!

Improving the radio discovery experience at Streema!

If you haven’t visited our radio directory recently, we recommend you do that right now! 🙂

Aside from finding a growing directory of thousands of radio stations, you’ll see that we now order radio stations by popularity, as measured by our community’s activity. It’ll be easier than ever to find the best stations out there! Check out the screen shot below.

If you look closely, you’ll also notice that on the right side of the page there’s a showcase of the top station for a select number of genres. This is so that you can quickly explore radios that Streema users have been listening to a whole lot recently. 🙂

Anyway, we hope you enjoy this new radio discovery tool – and we look forward to bringing you a more social and better community experience at Streema in the coming months.

So, one more time, stay tuned!

Recommending Radios on our Facebook Application!

Streema on Facebook - Recommend SectionHello Streema users!

This time we bring you an update concerning our Facebook application: we’ve just launched a Recommend section! It’s similar to the Messages section on our website, where you can recommend a radio to a friend, write them a message, or do both! The difference is that now, you’ll be able to this with your friends on Facebook. Check it out!

Also, we have two additional Facebook application announcements. The first is that we just released a simple Community section, that for now only displays two familiar charts: “Hottest of the Last Hour” and “Hottest of the Last Week”. The second is that we are working hard to adapt our application to the demands of the new profile redesign, which means we’ll be launching a Profile Application Tab and a Narrow Profile Box among other things.

That’s all for now. Remember, to stay updated with our Facebook application news, become a Fan!

Stay tuned!

Radio News – Core, Capital Life, theJazz… and saving Planet Rock!

Starting today, we’ll periodically blog Radio News with station information that we think is important and relevant to our users.

This information will range from recently added radio stations to Streema’s Radio Directory to broader industry events like mergers or acquisitions which cause stations to change names and others to even cease to exist! After all, listening to great radio stations is one of the main reasons Streema was created and we want to make sure our users are up to date with the latest info!

This time around, we bring news about radio stations that have closed and wanted to let you know what we’ve done about it in our Radio Directory:

  • Core radio has closed (see more info here), so it will be erased from our directory and from the any Favorite Lists that included them.
  • Capital Life and theJazz have closed too (see more info here and here). Since Capital Life’s old website, owned by Gcap Media, offers a link to Gold (listen via Streema), we’ll recommend that previous Capital Life listeners try it out. Similarly, theJazz offers a link to Classic FM (listen via Streema) as an option, so give it a shot if you’re a previous listener of theJazz!
  • Planet Rock is near closing, but a campaign to save it that is supported by Brian May (yes, you read well!) has just started.

Although most of this is hardly news in the media industry, we still wanted to inform the Streema community since we did make those changes to our directory. If anyone has any concerns, feel free to contact us.

Finally, we’ll like to thank one of our Streema Facebook App users, Cymon Humphries, for bringing up this information.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned!

Welcome to The Streema Blog!

We’re very happy to announce that today we’ve finally launched our blog, so “Welcome to The Streema Blog!”

Streema is the first social radio tuner on the web, a place where you can listen to, organize, share, and recommend radio stations from all over the world. You can also see what radios your friends are listening to at any time and soon we’ll be developing even more social features.

The Streema Blog is like any other blog, a space to enhance the communication between people. However, given that Streema is a very social and highly communicative experience with so many cool users around the world, we hope that our blog will be a great place to inform, learn, have fun and, more than ever, stay tuned to the coolest radios out there! On occasion we’ll be writing about our favorite radios, we’ll keep you posted on our new features, make new announcements, and a whole lot more. What else do you think our blog should be? Let us know by leaving your comments below!

In case you are a Facebook user, our Fb app has had an About Page for a few months now, which includes a Wall, a Review Section and a Discussion Board with a lot of feedback. We encourage you to take a look at it and, if you haven’t done so already, leave your comments and suggestions over there too.

Stay tuned!
