Finally finally finally we are opening¬†The Streema Store we announced in December 2010. We're extremely excited about this, not only because we'll finally have the chance to get a Streema-branded t-shirt or mug for the first time, but even better, all of our fans will be able to get the official and authentic Streema merchandise. ūüėČ

To start off we are offering T-Shirts for men, T-Shirts for women, Sweatshirts, Mugs, Mousepads, Aprons, Glass Steins and Bags. However, we would love to hear your suggestions for any product or design you'll like to have.

For now, a few things we want you to know:

  • For the next 30 days, you'll have the possibility to use a coupon: "streemalatepresent" that will give you a discount of U$S 5 to the orders above U$S 25.
  • The products can be¬†shipped to¬†213 countries, just bear in mind¬†it could take over 4 weeks to get to places like Argentina, but they should arrive. ūüôā
  • In order to make an order, you cannot use your personal Streema account, that is because the e-commerce is managed by Printfection.

Last but not least we want to thank all the people who gave us super valuable feedback to make this possible - believe us when we tell you that clothes for women and aprons are not among our specialties! We also want to thank our friends who came to the photo shooting as well as Jochi for taking the pictures and the folks over at GoodPeople for lending us their skateboards.  Finally, thanks to Printfection for offering this useful, reliable and secure tool to design, sell and ship products.

That's all for now - we're looking forward to seeing you wear those t-shirts and drinking out of Streema's¬†glass steins around the world. ūüôā

Stay tuned!

We have some good news for our lovely users who are embedding (or will like to embed) the Radio Widget on their blogs, websites and social profiles: we redesigned the widget we launched last year!

Based on user feedback, the redesign mainly consisted of giving the widget a more lively and fresh look. Additionally, now you can customize the background color with the following options: Vintage Grey, Streema Blue, Freaky Fuchsia, Sassy Orange, and for the audacious ones out there... Yoshi Green. ūüėČ

Go ahead and check it out for Fusion Radio Chicago:

The redesign not only involved the Radio Widget for a single station, but also the Radio Badge for stations that don't have a streaming URL as well as the Radio Widget for multiple radio stations that appear on the right column of the Radio Station Directory.

As we mentioned in our previous widget post, that was a first version of the widget - so you can consider this the second one. We look forward to hearing from you and making new changes in the future, like offering more colors and even bigger dimensions.

Stay tuned!

The Streema Team

PS: Just in case you're wondering: if you have already embedded the previous widget, in order to get the new design, you'll need to copy and paste the new code.

PS2: With regards to the "surprise" we mentioned previously, we promise it will be on our next blog post! ūüėČ

January has been a busy month for the team at Streema. In addition to our usual day-to-day work, we received a two-week visit from a group of students from North Carolina.

During the second and third week of the month, we worked with over a dozen students from Elon University. As part of their entrepreneurship class, they spent two weeks abroad, researching and developing cool ideas for our company, while visiting our local team in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  They split into three teams and, at the end of their two weeks, each team presented their recommendations on how to improve Streema's service.

We especially want to thank Dr. Hodge and Professor Palin for bringing them, and of course, we also want to thank all the students for such great work!

Elon students and their professors at the Raleigh airport, coming back from their trip.

That's all for now, see you on our next blog post. ūüôā

PS: Yes, we know we owe you a surprise from December, but please be patient and we'll soon have the surprise ready for you!

It's the end of the year, a time for reflection, wishes and projections. But before we get into that, we would like to talk about "us" as a whole: people who listen to radio, people who express their ideas, people who develop features, people who report bugs, people who fix them... there are many of us and today we want to talk about us all.

YOU are the most important part of all this. Every day on Streema, you listen to thousands of stations, write comments on the station's profile walls, send us loads of suggestions via the contact form and Facebook application, and even tweet about Streema!  Without you nothing would make sense.

WE have been developing this project since 2007 and we're pretty happy to say it's been a great journey. Streema has been a big part of our lives with lots of successes and failures. We're still a small team (that's why more than once we ask you to be patient with us) but the four of us are as committed as ever to make Streema a success.

Streema Team, from left to right: Juan, Martín, JC and Ricky.

WE are Streema and YOU are Streema. So, to all of the Streema fans out there: THANK YOU for being part of our journey. We wish you a great holiday season!

Stay tuned!

PS: We've got a little surprise for you in the works, but you'll need to wait till early 2011 to find out. ūüėČ

If you've recently been to the Wikipedia website, you may have seen a big banner at the top asking for donations.  While there are many websites that ask for donations, please allow us to explain why this one is different.  This is not only a donation to Wikipedia, but rather a great way to invest your money - yes, that's right, we said *invest* your money... and we mean invest it in your future and everyone else's.

To start off, here's a bit of context:  Wikipedia is run by the Wikimedia Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that supports itself with donations.  In spite of this limitation, Wikipedia is the 5th most visited website on earth, beating Amazon, Blogger or even Twitter - and the best part is that it's run by only 57 people and, very importantly, millions of volunteers.  Do you know many institutions like that? We certainly don't!

This year Wikipedia is turning 10 years old and it's doing a fund raising campaign. The major goal is to keep Wikipedia free of charge and free of advertising; and even more importantly, keeping it open, with the possibility of using the information in any way we want to and spreading it everywhere - see more on how the donations will be spent.

So, why is it better to give your money to the Wikimedia Foundation rather than to other organizations?  Or why is it better to donate it $20 to support Wikipedia instead of just saving (or spending) that amount?  Well, the truth is that we don't live alone in this world... and while many of us have been lucky to have had many opportunities in life, not everyone has had those same opportunities.  Frankly, one of the best ways to help improve the world and level the playing field is through education... and fortunately, "learning" is something that human beings are generally good at.  Now, having access to information is core to learning... and information is exactly what Wikipedia offers, providing the most open, free and accessible window to knowledge in the world:  for you and everyone else.

Let's all work together to help Wikipedia grow and improve people's lives around the world.  Let's invest in our collective future... what are you waiting for?

Stay tuned!

Ever since we started Streema, we knew that sooner or later, we would need to go mobile - actually, Maxwell Smart did exactly that with his "shoe phone" decades ago.

Over the past year, more and more mobile users have been coming to our site to listen to radio - and these same users have been requesting a Streema application for their mobile devices. We're thinking we should do something about it!

The mobile options today are so many, with platforms such as the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry...  choosing between stand-alone (native) apps vs web applications, it's not easy to pick the right one!  Some people even recommend that we develop something that works for all devices. Anyway, right now the only thing that we're 100% sure of is that there's enough evidence that radio is and will be consumed more and more while you're in a car, going out for a run, or anywhere away from home.

So, we are still trying to figure out our next move in the mobile space and here YOU can help us. ūüôā We've prepared a¬†short survey that you can answer¬†anonymously. Every second of your time can go a loooong way for us!

Once again, we're REALLY happy that you are a Streema user. Thanks for belonging to our community!

Last month, we were informed by Facebook that the¬†profile boxes were going to be removed, and that the width for the application¬īs tab was going to be reduced. We knew¬†this was going to happen sooner or later,¬†although we didn't post before since Facebook has changed the final dates a few times... and, we should admit it too, we also¬†were¬†"refusing" to accept it.

How does this affect Streema? Unfortunately, it's pretty bad for our Application for Facebook Pages, since it used the Profile Box specifically on Facebook Pages.  That means that it essentially doesn't work any more.  Additionally, the application's tab changed its width, so we'll need to adapt it in order to make it display properly (we'll post news in the next weeks about it).

So, this is obviously not good, we're not really happy about it, and Facebook users in general aren't either (you can read their opinion here, here and here).  At Streema we're committed to give you the best service we can, although sometimes surrounding circumstances like this one make it a little harder...

Back in late 2006, when Facebook opened its platform to third party developers, we saw a great opportunity and made it happen.  We now understand, though, that Facebook's strategy has evolved and may not benefit many third party developers anymore - so Facebook will need to understand that many third party developers (including Streema) may need to adapt, change, or even forgo the Facebook platform altogether.

Now, in case you're wondering, we're not planning to discontinue our application on Facebook, we still think it is a great app and users do as well since it's still the most popular application for radio on Facebook. But, as we were saying above, we'll need to evolve too.  We're still thinking about what that exactly means but be rest assured that we'll keep you posted.

Stay tuned!

At Streema, we're a community that celebrates a spectacular medium called radio.

We're not the only ones, though, since thousands of musicians and artists, ranging from rock to pop, metal to folk and even jazz have also celebrated radio.  There is no doubt this medium has influenced music, people, culture... and pretty much our entire society in the past decades.

So, today, we bring you some of the most popular songs in history that bands such as Queen, Autograph and Rush have dedicated to radio.  Hope you enjoy them!

Radio Ga Ga - Queen

Radio Waves - Roger Waters

Radio - Robbie Williams

Video Killed the Radio Star - Buggles

Turn Up The Radio - Autograph

Radio - The Corrs

The Spirit Of Radio - Rush

Which one is your favorite?  Are we missing any great songs?  If so, please let us know - we'd love to add them too!

Stay tuned!

Over the past few months we have received requests from 3rd party developers to use our radio directory in their own applications.  And while thinking about an API has been entertaining, for now we've had to focus our efforts on other aspects of Streema.  Well, we wanted to let you know that recently we made an exception when a developer we've known for a while, @thepose, asked us if he could create a Chrome Extension to use with Streema.  We figured it couldn't hurt to experiment, so we gave him the green light... and now there's a new way to listen to radio on Chrome:  the Radio Player for Streema extension.

Now, before we continue, for those of you that are not familiar with Chrome or Chrome Extensions, let us give you a very quick intro:  Chrome is a Web Browser, much like Internet Explorer or Firefox, and it's developed by Google; and Extensions are handy and useful applications that enhance your browsing experience on Chrome.

The extension Radio Player for Streema brings you the possibility to tune in to your favorite radio stations while you continue surfing the web.  Among it's main features, the Extension has a notification system that displays the song for the stations that have Now Playing information available. Please, try it out, share it with your network, and give us your feedback!

In addition to being very happy to know that our users now have another way to enjoy Streema, we're also happy to experiment with the idea of working with third party developers.  Our radio station directory contains tens of thousands of stations, from more than 230 countries and covering over 190 genres.  If you have thoughts about how to integrate it into another platform, do share them with us, we are always open to new ideas.

Radio is a powerful medium, traditionally broadcasted through the airwaves - but today, it's future is on the Internet.  The huge challenge will be to find the way it will be consumed:  PCs, mobiles, cars, game consoles...?  Most likely, it'll be all of them.

Stay tuned!
